On behalf of the Wildwood Police Department, FOP Lodge #7, and the Lunch With Lynch Foundation, we are coming together to support the family of Officer Shawn Stimmel following his sudden and untimely passing.

Shawn proudly served the City of Wildwood for 25 years and was preparing to retire this October after a stellar career dedicated to his community. During his career, he served as a School Resource Officer, Field Training Officer, and was a member of the original Community Policing Unit and Bike Squad.

At the time of his passing, Shawn was the department’s senior patrol officer and longest-tenured member of the Honor Guard.

Shawn was raised in Green Creek, NJ and graduated from Middle Township High School. Before becoming a police officer, he worked at Shuman’s Restaurant and was a drummer in local bands. He was known for his quick wit, infectious personality, and ability to make everyone around him smile.

Wildwood Chief of Police Joe Murphy said it best: “Shawn could walk into a room full of police officers and, within minutes, have everyone of them smiling and laughing.”

Shawn’s greatest legacy, however, was his love for his family, devoted mother, Dawn; his beloved children, Julian and Sara; and his father, Bill, who preceded him in passing.

All donations will go directly toward funeral expenses and helping support Shawn’s children navigate through the expenses and funeral costs for their dad.
