Support Sharon on Her Walk into the Sunset

Donation protected

I first met Sharon, and her husband Chris, at a Halloween party I hosted where they easily won best costume dressed as a saloon girl and her cowboy.

As I became friends with Sharon, I appreciated her passion and talent for bringing friends together. She would spend countless hours planning events, decorating, and baking as a way of showing us all how much she cared. They have both always stepped up to help others, have been involved with their church community, and been a blessing to those who know them. But now they need our help.

Sharon was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer and given about six months to live. When I asked her what she needed during this time, as usual, instead of being worried about herself, she was worried about Chris and how he will cope with her end-of-life care. She doesn’t want him to have to see and do the hardest parts alone. She doesn’t want to leave him in debt. She wants to know he’ll be okay.

Sharon’s wish is to have Visiting Angels assist her and Chris with her care. They provide essential help with things like bathing, meal preparation, laundry, and much more. Sadly, insurance doesn’t cover this care and the costs add up quickly. Chris is one of the hardest working people I know, but no one is prepared to handle this kind of emotional, physical, and economic hardship. In the decade I’ve known them, I’ve admired this creative, charismatic duo. They deserve so much better than this.

We, her friends, are setting up this GoFundMe in an effort to cover three weeks of Sharon’s care, and at nearly $1k per day, it will likely exceed $20k. But please donate what you can, even if that's just $1. I promise you that a $1 donation will be just as appreciated as a $100 donation because we know you gave what you can and you gave it with compassion. Every dollar helps and more people doing a little is the same as a few people doing a lot. Please feel free to leave a comment to tell us your fond memories of Sharon. Whether or not you are able to financially contribute, please contribute a few minutes of your time and repost this on any of your social media pages, or text/email the link to your friends, colleagues, loved ones, and community. Help us get the word out.

Sharon and Chris also wanted me to say that if we raise more than what’s needed to cover her medical expenses, they will donate the extra to either another cancer patient or a cancer charity.

Our hope is that we can make life’s sunset as peaceful as possible for Sharon and her cowboy. Sharon, know that you will be forever remembered and missed. We love you so much!
