My sister Sherri is in Rochester right now. I cannot even describe the sickness and pain she has been through in her lifetime because of polycystic kidney disease. She has had two kidney transplants and numerous, numerous surgeries resulting in trips to her local hospital, hospital stays, and trips to Rochester. This amazing woman has been through more in her lifetime than one person should be put through. Being flown down to Rochester from Bismarck was very traumatic for her. Her husband is with her but she is still far away from her children and grandchildren. She misses them dearly.
I want to tell you about this disease that is not so familiar to a lot of people. This disease has been our cancer. Having seven siblings, eight including myself, I have seen first hand what a disease like this has done to our family. Five of my eight siblings have this disease. All of them have had at least one transplant and Sharon has had two and my sister right now is needing a second transplant. This disease took our mother at the age of 63 and inJune if this yesr contributed to my sisters death at age 66. She was our rock, our angel and it’s completely devastated our family. Now we have Sharon who is fighting for her life in Rochester. This disease is a genetic disease. Somehow out of my mothers three siblings she was blessed with this disease.It has been handed down to five of my siblings and continues to ravish our family with six of my nieces and nephews having it.
I never new much about polycystic kidney disease when I was growing up and I don’t know if a lot of people know about this disease but I just want to let people know what a terrible disease it is and the story behind the devastation it has brought to one family. Please keep us in your prayers.
My sister lives on very little. She currently is in need of new glasses-and has lost numerous teeth due to all of the medications she is on. She is blind in one eye and has very poor vision in the other. That has taken away her ability to read, one of the things she dearly loved to do.
She has never complained a day in her life about living like she does. She has more faith in the Lord then anybody I know. Through all her trials she has never wavered.
Currently she is downin Rochester for the second time in a few months. She was flown to Rochester again from Bismarck. She is suffering from pancreatitis and has got a touch of pneumonia. She has not eaten for two weeks and is suffering from nausea and vomiting. Today they placed a NG tube in so she can get some nourishment. She is expected to be down in Rochester for at least another three weeks depending on when she gets her strength back and will have to go through therapy to begin walking again.
We are trying to defray costs that it takes to be in Rochester and give her peace of mind so she can concentrate on getting well. We love her and cannot do this by ourselves.
If you can give in anyway this would help defray costs of medication, trips to and from Rochester, her everyday normal bills that are due, and just expenses from being in Rochester.
