UPDATE on 05/10/16:
We are still trying to help Shannon. Months have passed - and still the doctors have not been able to determine what is wrong with her. We have made every effort to try to get her the help she needs - however - her condition is so rare that it is going to take a much more specialized team of doctors to help save her.
Saturday, Shannon took another of SO many trips to the ER in an ambulance with labored breathing, extreme pain, an undue amount of fluid built up in her body, and fear.
Though it will be extremely hard on her family - given the fact she has a daughter with severe autism - it is time to get Shannon to the Ochsner Foundation in New Orleans, or Ronald Reagan Medical Center at UCLA. We will approach both locations and see which one we can get her to most expeditiously.
Please considering helping Shannon with your financial donation of ANY amount. <3
UPDATE on 11/09/15:
Shannon's condition continues to deteriorate. As of today, she is hospitalized at Renown as they try to determine why she is having so much trouble breathing. Doctors have dicovered nodules in both of her lungs, which need to be biopsied; her weight continues to increase; she has very little strength. Her immune system has turned against her - and there is a rush to determine the cause.
We are focused on getting Shannon transfered to the Mayo Clinic for immediate intervention - as it is obvious her medical condition is extremely complex and more experts are needed.
Costs for her medical care and related expenses are skyrocketing.
THANK YOU ALL for your help and contributions. Please if you would - SHARE this gofundme me account!
Shannon is very ill. She needs our help. She has spent YEARS not only advocating for her autistic daughter Joy, but also for many other children who have autism in Nevada. Now she needs our community's help to navigate the enormous mountain ahead of her as she fights to find her way back to wellness.
After months and months of medical procedures and tests, and recently undergoing brain surgery for an aneurysm - which wasn't even part of her difficult illness - she was referred to the UCSF Endocrinology Division in San Francisco, California where they tried to determine why she is so sick, and why she's gaining weight at the alarming rate of nearly 10lbs per week. Unfortunately they were not able to help - and now she waits for a referral to their Internal Medicine Division.
In the meantime, Shannon's health continues to suffer and is not improving. The doctors in Reno, NV are trying hard to find out what is wrong through almost daily testing...to no avail.
She is already facing over $110K in medical bills to date. The Autism Coalition of Nevada has been helping as much as possible. But together - we are asking for continued help from friends and fellow autism advocates so that Shannon can afford to go back to UCSF, and possibly the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Az.
Commuting back and forth to UCSF as they move forward with determining what is wrong will also be extremely costly.
Shannon has to get well. She has a severely autistic daughter to take care of for many years to come, as well as her young daughter Avery. Her husband Matt continues to do all he can to help with the care of Joy and Avery while Shannon struggles with her acute illness.
THANK YOU SO MUCH to the people who have already donated to this fund <3
Please continue to help and SHARE... every penny contributes to finding out what is wrong - and helping Shannon to get well.
Thank you sincerely.
