Thank you for taking the time to find my crowdfund. I have recently moved platforms for the final push on my journey to gaining a Masters in Acting from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland - this also means I am able to offer a reward for your pledge. Please visit https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/shakma to make a donation and receive a reward for your generosity.

*******

Hello, my name is Shakara. I'm a Master's student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland  (ranked 3rd in the world  for performing arts education). I am raising funds to pay my remaining tuition fees for my training (£6480) - which has been put on hold for one year because of Covid - nevertheless I am due to return to my studies in June 2021 and I will graduate in September 2021 with a Masters in Classical & Contemporary Text, Acting.

MY STORY:

In August 2019 I was accepted amongst thousands to train at RCS, but I hadn't the money to go, having just lived off my savings for a year due to illness. With no family support, my amazing friends pledged towards my first term of fees and got me to Glasgow. Now I have £6480 to go to make it to graduation!

I saved the £10K needed and got close to my dream of a Masters in 2018, but then broke my foot and ankle, and this triggered a year of severe mental illness - I have CPTSD  and this can be triggered by stress and pain...so three broken bones was pretty much a guarantee! I was unable to work and had to live off savings I had gathered over eight years.

When I was offered a place at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2019, trusted friends convinced me I was loved enough in my many circles to raise the money - so I decided to accept! Best decision I could have made. I was well enough to work by then and I worked. I gathered £1000 in just one month from three jobs, and my friends all raised the remaining £2335 I needed to pay my first term. Chapter One -I got to Glasgow and accepted my place at the world renowned Royal Conservatoire of Scotland!

NOW:

Since arriving I have been through a huge amount of growth, and I continue to work hard with commitment and dedication...which is paying off. I had the fortune to perform on stage at Shakespeare's Globe in January of 2020 and played the demanding role of Queen Hermione in Winter's Tale  in our spring production at the Conservatoire. My original work is also being platformed by RCS, along with an interview about the concept.

I still have far to go. I've done and am doing the work. But I still need a little help to make it to graduation. Please pledge, and please share this GoFundMe to help get my message out there, and give people the chance to help someone in real need who will remember their generosity wherever she goes!

With thanks,

Shakara x
