Please take a moment to watch our video and read about our WHY behind supporting this worthy cause, written below

We are two friends, Tayla Smith and Amy Attenborough, who are taking part in the Serengeti Girls Run happening in October 2022 in Tanzania. This involves a 3-day 63km run across the plains of the Serengeti to help raise funds for empowerment programs for the young girls of the Grumeti region.

Every woman should be able to run HER race. Sadly, most girls in underdeveloped countries face the effects of insufficient primary and tertiary education, a lack of access to contraception and many are forced into early marriages. Added to this is period poverty, where girls miss a week of school every month due to shame and a lack of sanitary products. These need to change.

With your help we aim to raise $30 000 to fund the following initiatives:

- Scholarships for 80 local girls in secondary school, vocational studies and university
- Empowerment events for 5000 high school girls
- One year’s worth of reusable sanitary pads for 5000 high school girls so that they can attend school with dignity and pride
- Mentorship programmes
- Life skills training

During our time working at Londolozi Private Game Reserve, we spent countless hours running in the bush and found this to be our favourite way of reconnecting with ourselves and one another. And both being passionate about women’s empowerment we couldn’t think of a better cause to support.

"I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to follow my dreams and had access to education having attained both a degree in Marketing and a degree in Education.  Over the years I have lost my menstrual cycle three times, due to an eating disorder, over-exercising and stress. I never truly realised the importance of my hormones and the role that they played in the health of a woman until having gone through this myself. Sadly, it’s something we aren’t taught about. This whole experience has been the greatest lesson and blessing for me to really slow down and I have found a deeper love and appreciation for myself and my body.

It’s because of this that I’m currently studying to become a menstrual health educator so that I can teach other women about the importance of menstrual health and well-being. There’s nothing shameful about hormones and periods. It’s a topic that has been labelled as “taboo” when instead it should be shared and celebrated, which is why I’m so ready to do what I can to help!” – Tayla Smith

“I am so grateful that I was never intimidated to enter the guiding world as a woman because it’s a mostly male-dominated industry. I believe this is because my educators and my family never differentiated between me and my brothers. I was always taught that I could do whatever I set my heart on and I consider this foundation one of the greatest privileges I’ve been given. Every young girl and woman deserves to be given this as her right. To be educated, to attend school with pride and dignity, to make choices about what she does with her body and mind, and to contribute to her community in the ways that inspire and enliven her.

My safari company, Wild Again, has women’s empowerment at its heart and we believe that strong, supported women help to build strong families and strong communities. And those that remain connected to nature impact the world for the better.” – Amy Attenborough.
