"Men anpil chay pa lou." -Haitian proverb
Many hands make the burden lighter.
Yes, I love all those kids, but right away Steevenson and I shared a special bond. The day I met him was one of the happiest days of my life. He always had a big smile on his face and was always laughing. He wrote me a letter saying how happy he was to see me and how much he loves me.
I take this letter everywhere I go to remind me that this boy still needs me. A year later, I returned to MABE and he came running into my arms and didn't leave my side. I wanted to adopt him more than anything, but sadly, I am only 21 and the law states that I have to be 35. Nonetheless, this does not mean that I will stop loving him any less. I want him to have the best life he could have and putting him into school is a big step forward. However, it is very expensive and I am still paying for my own time at school, but these kids are my main priority. I think about them everyday and I wish they could have the things we have. Yet, these kids have taught me that even with so little, you can still celebrate life and put a smile on your face.
