My name is Emil Dimitrov and I am the head coach of the Liquid Lightning and Kelowna Aquajets swim clubs. I have been coaching age group swimming in Canada for the past 23 years. My coaching career began in Milton, Ontario back in 1992, I moved to Calgary to coach at the University of Calgary before finally moving with my family to West Kelowna 2009
I am a former swimmer and competed in Bulgaria for 18 years and finished my career as a Modern Pentathlete. I qualified for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games but unfortunately Bulgaria boycotted these O
lympics and I wasn’t able to participate.
RIO 2016 is my next opportunity to attend the Olympic Games and I’d like to go. I have a swimmer who I’ve coached for 7 years qualify for these Olympics and she will be competing in two events and possibly a relay. This is my dream come true and I really want to be there for her.
The cost of attending the Rio Olympics is expensive. Flights in August to Rio from Kelowna cost approximately $2,000, Accommodation and transportation for 9 days in Rio will cost about $2,000 and tickets to the 7 or 8 swimming events will also cost about $2,000.
This is my Dream and I will be so thankful to cheer on Team Canada in person. I am hopeful you will be able to contribute something and every little bit helps.
