Send Darius to Black Hills State

Donation protected
I am sharing this story, because Darius is far too humble to do so himself.  I have known Darius for about three years.  I have had the pleasure to participate in his life through Colorado Youth At Risk, as well as typical high school life at Aurora Central.

Darius is here on an education visa, his family orginally from Ghana, came to America several years ago, in seeking their American Dream.

His mother works incredibly hard and is an amazing role model for her children.  She leads...by example.

Darius is an amazing student, and has earned a football scholarship to attend Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD.  He graduated with honors from Aurora Central, having participated in Colorado Youth at Risk, football, and track.  He's worked two jobs this summer to prepare for his education.

What's unfortunate is that  Darius does not qualify for federal student loans or grants.  I have no doubt that Darius will make this happen, but it would be so much easier with our help.  Please consider a donation to a young man that is everything we're hoping for in our future, a sense of community, great respect and tremendous humility.

Here is some more of his story!

"To physically step on a college campus before making the big decision is something that is essential to me, getting a feel for the campus and the city is something that should never be overlooked, when deciding to attend an institute of higher education.  With the help of some of the tremendous CYAR members, I was able to visit an out-of state university that I had very high on my list. I was invited to an Official Visit by the Football program, so all of my expenses were paid for.

I arrived in the beautiful small city of Spearfish, South Dakota at about 3:00 P.M. and checked into the Fairfield Inn. During the visit we got to do so many activities; we attended the school’s basketball games, spoke with many players and coaches, and we even got to attend a meeting with a Vice-President of the school. The other recruits and I got the chance to get a tour of the hills; to see all the fun things to do around town, and we also got a tour of the school. We also got to step onto the field, also known as Lyle Hare stadium and take a countless amount of pictures, and we even go to go into the football locker room and try on jerseys and check out some of the Yellow Jacket gear.

Yes, I went on a football visit but I am going to college with education as my number one priority, so personally I feel that the most important thing we did was attend a Q & A with parents and the head admissions counselor. While I was at the visit I started to realize that the school was a perfect for me; not too big, but not too small, a friendly environment, and lots of fun outdoorsy stuff to do around the campus. February 4th; National Signing day, I ended up signing my letter of intent to Black Hills State University, and if it wasn’t for the great experience I had at the campus and around the town, I would still probably be undecided with my future school.
