ORIGINAL GO FUND ME:
The photo above was taken a few months before my dad's diagnosis.
My Dad was a hard-working stone mason that could build anything you asked for. He used to garden, cook on the grill and spend time with his family. He is now bedbound unless we help him get up which is extremely hard on his entire body because he is in excruciating pain and every time we move him, his oxygen drops.
My Father, Scott (age 60) was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroendocrine cancer and the doctors have informed us that he only has a limited number of days left to live. This news has been devastating for our family, and we are struggling to come to terms with the fact that we will soon be losing a very important person in our lives.
It's been just over a month since my father was told he had only a month to live, and the past few weeks have been incredibly difficult for him.
His life has changed rapidly. Three months ago he was able to walk around, (with some pain), but he never could have imagined this. He hasn't been able to eat more than a few bites of food a day. It hurts to see him struggling so much and on top of everything he is now very self-conscious about his weight and hair loss. My dad has lost almost 60 pounds in three months. High-caloric shakes are expensive. I want to be able to give him more than one option since he is mostly drinking liquids regularly.
The thought of him suffering is unbearable, and we are doing everything we can to make his remaining time on earth as comfortable as possible. We are doing our best to get him to regular cancer treatment appointments, but it's increasingly difficult for him to leave the house.
We are trying to raise $12,000 for medical expenses, supplies, health shakes, prescriptions and many things that insurance is not able to fully cover. We also hope to be able to afford to burry him as he has requested, at this time we will not be able to fulfill his wishes to be burried. Despite our best efforts, we have been struggling with many things that are not covered by his current Medicaid insurance, which is the best coverage he is currently able to qualify for.
At the same time as the diagnosis, my Mom took on a $20,000 loan to repair our home. This is the home my Dad wants to stay in because he is most comfortable here, and we can provide great care for him here. We have been able to get most of the medical supplies up to this point like a home hospital bed, briefs, bed pads, wipes, gloves, breathing treatment supplies, medication, and more, but it's financially becoming increasingly difficult for the whole family.
I am writing to you today because I know that you have a kind heart, and I am hoping that you might be able to help us in our time of need. Any amount you can contribute will be greatly appreciated and will help us to provide my father with the care and comfort he needs while fighting the impossible battle of Stage 4 Neuroendocrine cancer.
Please know that this is a very emotional and difficult time for our family, and we are reaching out for help with a heavy heart. We are grateful for any support you can offer, and we will be forever thankful for your kindness and generosity.
My Mother, Vicki McBride will be managing the funds to benefit Scott.
