Scott Hawkins Recovery Fund
In April of 2014 at 37 years old, my husband Scott Hawkins, had a brain aneurysm caused by an Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) . It caused a massive stroke and heart attack.
After being told Scott would never function again and that I should let him go, I chose to give him a chance and started the long process of rehabilitation.
It took over 6 months, 4 of which were spent in a rehabilitation hospital almost 2 hours away. But Scott finally came home.
Scott is now walking with a walker in our home and is working on becoming independent with a cane.
His biggest struggles are fatigue, balance, vision and short-term memory loss. All of which are constantly improving with help from Speech, Physical and Occupational therapy.
Scott's insurance for therapy is unfortunately about to run out. He only has a couple more treatments available. Also, we have found it will be so beneficial for him to recieve treatments from a vision therapist, which we will have to pay out of pocket for.
Along with traditional therapy and vision therapy to help with his progression in recovery. We have found a music therapy program, a water therapy class and yoga studio that are all excited to work with him.
We believe that these, along with his healing team which includes doctors, a naturopath, acupuncture , chiropractic, massages and therapists will help Scott recover to his full potential. Most of which are also not covered with his insurance.
"We can't afford to do all these things, but we can't afford not to".
I say this all the time, because it is so true. The amount of healing Scott has already experienced is unprecedented and we need your help to keep moving forward with his recovery.
I left my career in April of 2014 to care for Scott. And as of now, he still needs constant supervision because of his deficits from the stroke. We have also exhausted our savings and retirement plans to pay for travel and medical expenses.
We have come to a point in Scott's recovery where we either go all out and ask for help or try to do his therapy on our own. It took a long time to come to this decision. It is an unbelievably humbling experience. And we THANK YOU with everything we are.
Please be part of Scott's incredibly story and recovery.

"Life is crazy and not always kind.
But when you hit bottom you get to witness moments that lift you back up. Moments that fill you with so much love and hope you want to scream to the world just how big these feelings are.
These are moments that were born out of anguish but are brought on by triumph.
I have always said that I am a lucky girl. I know this, now more than ever, because my husband keeps reminding me I am every single day.
I am so incredibly proud to be Scott's wife."
