Scott Sommers hit & run cycling accident recovery

Hi my name is Mica. My dad Scott Sommers is currently living in the beautiful state of Montana working as a nurse in a long term care facility but now he’s in need of long term care.

Scott is an avid cyclist who on Saturday the 9th of September took advantage of the amazing weather and he and his girlfriend went out for a short bike ride. My dad was sharing his passion of riding with Julie and they had started training for Julie’s first race. My dad went ahead for the last bit of their ride and when he was nearly home the unthinkable happened. He had a horrific accident. He was found by his girlfriend Julie in the middle of the road unconscious and bleeding. His bike was laying next to him his body broken. He was rushed by ambulance to the Bozeman medical center to the CCU and had a trauma team assessed him. Scott has extensive injuries that include 3 breaks in his clavicle (full separation) 5 broken ribs, a fractured pelvis, lung contusion, and a brain bleed. It’s going to be a long road to recovery and at this time he’s still in the ICU.

Scott was out doing what he loves. His life has revolved around riding a bicycle and sharing his passion with anyone and everyone. Scott has been a part of the cycling community for over 45 years. He’s been in executive positions with his local bike club in NY, he participated in the Ride for Missing Children for over 17 years raising funds and riding 100s of miles, organized races etc. When you talk about a passion for a sport you think of my dad.

His job assignment in Bozeman unfortunately will end before he’s able to go back to the long term care facility. We need your help to support Scott’s medical and living expenses in the next few months. This will not end his passion for the bike, this is just a detour in life and not a dead end.
