Scot Simmons Medical Bills
Donation protected
Scot was admitted to Methodist hospital the beginning of March with high blood pressure, high pulse, irregular heart beat, and a large amount of fluid retention. He was admitted to ICU and transferred to Baptist Hospital heart transplant ICU where he was stationed for 3 weeks then different rooms in the hospital for another 2 weeks. During this time, he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and kidney failure. Scot underwent multiple days of 24/7 dialysis to remove the fluid build up on his heart, lungs and body. The doctors have worked closely to get his kidneys to return to normal.
Currently, Scot will be going back to the heart doctor to run tests to determine the cause of everything that occurred in March, 2019.
Scot gained over 40 lbs of fluid the month prior to arriving in the hospital. With the additions of fluids while in the hospital IV's, we believe Scot gained an additional 20 lbs. When Scot left the hospital, he was 40 lbs below his normal weight. This is a total of 100 lbs of weight loss in just a few short days of dialysis.
During this time Scot's work, GR Douglas and Assoc., has continued to allow Scot to receive a paycheck. Brandy's work has allowed her to file FMLA to care for Scot.
Medical bills are starting to come in for both hospitals. While the insurance will help, we are still working with the insurance to determine how much the total out of pocket will be expected for both hospitals. In addition, there will be additional costs for the heart tests as well as any required procedures as a result of the heart tests.
Finally, while operating on a single income during this time, personal bills are beginning to build.
At this time, we are estimating the total impact of this medical issue. The goal may be raised in the future as we obtain more information.
