School Bore Project – A Parting and Lasting Gift

As a parting gesture to the local community, the Construction team at Wahgnion Gold Operations is raising money to install two water bores at school sites in close proximity to the project in south western Burkina Faso.

Due to the recurring droughts and desertification in this part of West Africa, water can be very scarce. In some schools surrounding the project area, children and teachers travel around 2 kilometres, to fetch drinking water every day. 

Given the poor road conditions and weight of water the journey is long and strenuous. Collecting drinking water takes up large amounts of time that the children should be spending in the classroom. Installing a water bore close to the school would mean this trip would be no longer be necessary. In addition to larger qualities of drinking water the school and local community would also have access to clean water for washing, cleaning and cooking.

It costs $15,000 USD to install a fully functioning water bore. The following is a brief overview of what is required during the construction process to provide an understanding of what the money raised will go towards:

·      Mobilisation of equipment including trucks, drilling equipment etc.

·      Drilling and casing of the bore hole.

·      Building the concrete structure around the bore.

·      Testing and water analysis to ensure the production rate is sufficient and the water is safe for drinking.

·      Installation and commissioning of the foot pump.

100% of the money raised in this initiative will go to the construction of the water bores.
