HELP SNDC GET A COSTUME LIFT!

Sayat Nova Dance Company of Boston (SNDC) is North America's leading Armenian dance company. Founded in 1986 as a non-profit, all-volunteer organization, SNDC is committed to preserve and promote the Armenian culture through the art of dance. This year, the Company celebrates its 30th anniversary with a brand new production, which means new music, new choreography, new staging, and of course new costumes. Help us raise $5,000 that will be used to produce our brand new costumes which will support us in continuing to educate, entertain, and enrich audiences worldwide with our strong culture and beautiful heritage.

As part of a rich culture, Armenian folk dancing is a reflection of the life and legacy of the Armenian people. Each dance symbolizes the livelihood, the aspirations, the legends, the celebration of life and appreciation of beauty.

To see a performance, is to watch an untold story. It is the story of our ancestors, the story of our history, and inevitably, the story of our strength. Every detail, from music and choreography, to lighting and costumes has been carefully strung together to create the story of our culture and share it with audiences near and far.

The preparation for a new production requires new costumes that are designed specifically for each dance and story it represents. Each costume is designed in Armenia and hand sewn with the utmost detail and intricacy. Similar to each dance having its own characteristics based on the region of Armenia the dance originates from, the costumes depict a similar quality and design from that region of Armenia. For every dance, 20 women’s and 20 men’s costumes are hand sewn and fitted to each one of our dancers. Over ten hours are required to make just one costume. With your support, our $5,000 goal will assist in purchasing the costumes needed for our new production, as well as support a wide variety of artisans in Armenia who are hand sewing each costume.
