WHO AM I?

Hello.  My name is Dwayne Bryant.  My students call me, Big Brother DB.  For nearly two decades, I have had the pleasure of mentoring and motivating over 15,000 students, parents and teachers within the Chicago-land community, resulting in dramatic improvements in school climate and student achievement.  I believe, by positively impacting a child’s self-esteem that in turn will inspire them to do better academically.  Inspiring students to do better academically will improve their chances for future success and will strengthen of our nation.

WHAT IS MY MISSION?

Due to a series of intense conversations with my students and an incredibly positive encounter with Indiana State Trooper Aron Weller, I was inspired to write a powerful and timely book entitled, The STOP – Improving Police and Community Relations.  I am on a mission to start a NEW National Conversation and a Direct Action Campaign teaching Mutual Respect, Personal Responsibility, Accountability and Improved Relations with Youth, Parents, Teachers and Law Enforcement across America.  I am committed to initiating this much needed conversation and finding sensible solutions to improve the necessary relationship between police and community.

In The STOP, I share seven personal encounters I had with law enforcement since elementary school.  Some ended wonderfully and some could have ended in death, with one leaving a physical scar to this day.  Each encounter, there were many lessons learned.  Lessons for me, lessons for the officer and lessons for society in general.   I take the reader on a wonderful journey of a boy growing up into manhood.   You will laugh.  You will cry.  You will cheer me on and you will be afraid for me.
The STOP transcends race.  It is a must read for ALL Americans.

In an effort to expand this national campaign, I will partner with public, private and charter schools, youth organizations, police departments and other master-mind organizations throughout America (via town hall meetings, school assemblies, Police and Community meetings).

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING?

Prior to releasing to the public, I’ve shared my book with a few individuals, including parents, students, educators, community activists and various law enforcement ranging from local and state police, FBI and a State’s Attorney.   The STOP has been well received by all.  David Bursten, Chief Public Information Officer for the Indiana State Police felt that I was the right person, with the right message at the right time.

In addition, Dr. Lee P. Brown (former: Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, President of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Atlanta Public Safety Commissioner, Police Chief and Mayor of Houston, Texas, New York City Police Commissioner, Founding member of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives) stated in his foreword:  “Whether you are a parent, teacher, community leader or law enforcement officer; this book should be added to your “must read” list. I believe that the strategies outlined in the book will encourage honest dialogue and provide for the teaching of principles that will positively change lives. I am honored to have this opportunity to write a foreword to Dwayne Bryant’s The STOP. His dedication to improving police and community relations shines through brilliantly.”
