Keeping a roof over my head.
Hi, my name is Bret Allen. I am living in Boone, NC. I apologize if the following doesn't flow well, I am tremendously exhausted. For the past year the only job I have been able to find was a part-time, minimum wage, fast food position. As a result, I am now very behind on my rent. I recently got a new job that pays enough money for me to get caught up on all of my bills including my rent, but a few days ago I received a letter from my landlord telling me that I have to be caught up in 10 days or he will evict me. I called to explain that I have a new job and I can get caught up, but he had no interest in working with me. I am overwhelmed by this pressure because I am finding that I can not come up with the money, and I have no place that I can go if I am evicted. I only have 6 days remaining, and so far I have explored the following options:
*Gone to every single finance company and bank in town, and called several out of town to apply for loans.
*Selling and pawning everything that I have of value.
*Asking friends and family about borrowing money or co-signing a loan for me.
*Contacting financial assistance programs.
*Considering predatory payday loans.
*Asking people to take out a loan for me, that I can make payments on.
*Negotiating with my landlord.
*Talking with financial consultants.
*Bankruptcy (to possibly help with an emergency loan)
*Asking for a loan from organizations that I am a member of.
I am quickly running out of places to turn, and any contribution would be a godsend because it would get me closer to avoiding becoming displaced, or even homeless.
I am also willing to pay anyone back over this Summer if they would rather let me borrow an amount.
Please share this everywhere you can think.
-Bret Allen
*UPDATE*
For those wondering why I had to increase my goal amount, I just found out that gofundme takes an 8 percent cut of the donations.
