UPDATE: Jan 3/2013: We are now NEARLY 100 animals- mostly dogs and puppies, plus 6 cats/kittens and 1 feral piglet!! We need to emphasize the tremendous support form the Veterinarians helping us (Dr. Proctor, Dr. Green, Dr. Edwards & Gurrerro) and all the support pouring in from you folks. Not just on the donations here but the food, the blankets, the kennels, the prayers, the emotional and public support! It is heartbreaking to look into the eyes of those we have to leave behind because we have no room and no place to bring them to, but we steel ourselves and go back out there and continue to get as many as we can every day . We are flawed, we are making mistakes, we get tired and frustrated and angry, so forgive us. But for these animals, we are relentless and devoted with you behind us and pushing us to the next-- one more, one more, one more not to be cold or scared or sick or suffering, and it is worth all the himan imperfections...
Toni/Executive Director, San Antonio Street Saves
DEC 4, 2012:WE HAVE SAVED OVER 60 --SIXTY- animals (dogs, pups, 6 cats, and 1 feral piglet) in 31 DAYs (Nov 5th- Dec 4, 2012) using EVERY single penny plus every thing we can scrounge out of our own paychecks for the animals-- spay/neuters, shots, medical triage with about half way to our goal. 60 animals off the streets to rescues, fosters, sanctuaries, or permanent (screened!) new loving homes. We ARE fighting for them with everything we can muster! We want to do another 60 at least in the next 30 days-- we are your hands and arms and legs and it is possible because of all of YOU we
did this!
*We know we can not save them all, but look at this picture of Nova, who was 1 day away from death when she was rescued, and see why we are committed to saving as many as possible! Saving real street dogs & cats in imminent danger who are suffering right now-that's us! SASS! Every day here,of an estimated 200,000 (yes!) unwanted, injured, scared, starving street strays in our city San Antonio Street Strays (SASS) sends volunteers out and pulls in as many as we can to safety. SASS is a centralized information and coordination 'ACTION" group of private citizens that are fed up and trying to save as many as we can. These animals are in real-time danger and injured, starving or abused. We try to save as many animals as possible that are hurt and unwanted and scared and lonely-and end their despair. Animals we save are vetted, spayed/neutered, responsibly rehomed so they never suffer again, or, mercifully and humanely euthanized if needed. We are a network of private citizens-individuals and small rescues- all scraping together whatever resources possible to try to end SUFFERING IN PROGRESS! There is NO ONE ELSE here to help them. Our City and local rescues are under avalanches of unwanted animals. We are killing about a 100 animals a day at our ACS alone! Puppies! Pregnant moms! Loving animals discarded by owners.
We have begged for help and for 20 yrs, nothing is any different. While we work to change laws and see laws enforced anew, we MUST STOP SUFFERING NOW! We can not sit and wait for change any longer. We are taking ACTION and we are becoming their CHANGE today. Today! Every single penny is going to their food, medicines, kennel/carriers, spay/neuter, shots, and their DIRECT survival and care. Many are in bad shape. All are heartbreaking but become transformed with love and care! We need your help as we are doing everything to stretch every dollar. There are many worthy causes, but our Strays have NO ONE to save them except us and YOU! $25 dollars gets a dog fully vetted and chipped using our frugal methods- our techs and Vets. $50 get spay/neutering. $15 will feed a med. dog for a month! We are doing with pennies what the City is unable to do with millions!
Yes. We know we can not save them all, but look at this picture of Nova, who was 1 day away from death when she was rescued, and see why we are committed to saving as many as possible. But as of Dec 4th, 60 animals are alive and safe and healing because people helped them. Thank you for any amount even if $5.00 that you can give these unloved, discarded street strays . We are fed up and if you will back us, we will work tirelessly. Please tell your friends and spread the word. This must end. It is not an 'animal problem'-- it is a problem of cruelty and suffering caused by humans that humans must fix!I We wish you could see their eyes and their pain.
