We are a group of families who's starting this campaign to help our friend's daughter Katya in a fight for her future.
She was born with Crouzon syndrome.
The doctors thought she would never develop like other kids because of her diagnosis, but she surprised them. She is very active and curious, loves to learn and try all new things.
They said she would never walk because of Cerebral Atrophy, but now she crawls, walks and smiles.
So far, she's been much stronger than her diseases.
The next challenge, though, is one that she can't overcome without help from more than just her family.
The bones in Katya's skull are not expanding to accommodate the normal growth of her brain. Without surgery, her hard work and progress so far will be lost as her brain will press against the walls of her skull and the damage will be devastating and irreversible. At her age, she probably would not even understand what is happening to her.
Katya is not even two years old.
The good news is that surgery can help and the procedure will cost only 44,152 dollars "“ a fraction of what most major surgeries cost these days.
The bad news is that the nearest surgeon who can perform the operation is over 2000 miles away from her.
The worse news is that, at this point, with so little time remaining, her family has no means of coming up with the funds for the operation, even though the cost is far from unreasonable.
She is a real child. Some mother's loved daughter. Some father's pride and joy. A toddler that you don't know, but you have the power to help.
Think back to the last luxury item you bought yourself, the last major service on your car, the dinner out you had last weekend, for no reason other than you didn't feel like cooking at home. How much did you spend? Do you think that much could help save the life of a two year old that you don't know?
This family has very little time to rase the amount needed, so please do what you can to help. Please spread the word.
