Meet my puppers, Chance.
#SaveChance

Yesterday she got out of our fenced back yard. I keep my back door to my home open so she can go in and out as she pleases though the day. I heard what sounded like dogs fighting so I got up and looked and couldn't find her in my house. Then I heard a loud knock on the door so I ran outside thinking maybe my dog who had never been in an fight in her life was in one.

When I got out there the neighbor just yelled my dog got run over. And she said she thinks they hit her then backed up and hit her again. When I saw my dog she was laying on the ground covered in what looked like blood and was trying to get up but couldn't. I told my mom she would have to drive to the vet cause I just had surgery on my shattered elbow last week I can't use my arm let alone drive my stick shift car.  My mom said she had to change first. Cause that's more important than saving my dogs life I guess.

I decided I couldn't wait. So I took my sling off and moved my car to the front of the house and tried to get her in the car. Someone helped and while I was moving her my dog bit me. She's never bitten anyone. She's the most loving dog. But she was just in so much pain.

With my broken elbow I sped to the Animal ER. Luckily it was close. They did x-rays. Got her stable. Said she was in shock. They didn't see anything major. Her lungs were bruised a little and her hip was dislocated. But they wanted to keep her there over night to watch over her.

The surgeon called me today and said they were able to find that she has some spinal cord damage. And they couldn't tell to what extent without an MRI scan and they didn't see any indication of internal bleeding or organ damage.  But the spinal cord damage is serious. So is her hip being knocked out of place.

She said they could try to pop her hip back in place but it only has 50% chance of staying in place. The other option is to give her surgery to have them install a pin to keep her hip in place.

I just don't have that kind of money. I wish I did so I elected to have them pop her hip back into place. The vet just called and said she was able too do that but it kept slipping out. So her leg has a sling to help hold it in place. But I'd guess that's not very encouraging that it will not slip out. She also warned me that her spine can get worse without treatment and cause permanent damage.

Rough estimates she gave me are:
To pop the hip back in: $250
Hip Surgery: $2,500
MRI scan: $2,000
Back surgery: $3,500
...and that's on top of the $1,000 I already paid yesterday to bring her in to be treated.

she did say it could easily reach $10,000 for additional check ups, X-rays, etc. Which is why I set it for. However for anything raised over actual costs for my puppy I will donate to the Humane Society. (Which my Amazon smile donations have donated to for years.)

Thank you for taking the time to read this. And for donating and for sharing and just helping out and being a great person. You rawk.

I've added the following info so you can also get to know me dog a bit more if you are interested..

(Pic from the first day I bought her home.)

I got Chance 12 years ago completely by accident. Someone kept calling me to see if I wanted their dog. I had no idea who these people were but they were convinced that I loved their dog. My previous dog had passed away about year before that and I was thinking about getting a new puppy so I decided to go check out this puppy.

When I got there, this dog that was so kind and so playful. The lady and her currently boyfriend explained that this dog was about a year old and her ex boyfriend abused the dog. She didn't tell me what he did other than he would kick her across the room. I also noticed after I had her she was afraid of water and being blown on. She also mentioned she was kept in a kennel constantly. Which is no way for a puppy to live.

Because of her terrible past I named her Chance. Cause I gave her a new chance at life. A better life.

I spent hours upon hours every day for months with Chance working with her. Showing her she didn't need to be afraid anymore. It was a lot of work. But it was worth every second. She deserves to know that she could be happy and have fun. And not get hurt.

Since I got Chance she has always been by my side. And I would take her with me anytime I could. In fact going for rides is her favorite thing ever. If I just say the word ride she starts jumping in circles so excited. I remember once I went out to my car to get something and she jumped in and would not get out until I took her for a ride.

I shattered my elbow last Nov and wasn't able to sleep on my bed for a couple months. Instead I slept on my couch in a recliner position. And in that whole time she never once left my side. She was so worried about me. Even though she had her own bed in my room and my super comfy bed. She wanted to make sure I was okay

(Pic of her excited to go for a ride.)

Here are a few of my memories with her:

She often acts like a little kid. I'll tell her to go to bed and she'll sulk and look at me with puppy dog eyes with her head down and looking back as she slowly walks away. Then she'll always sneak back in the room hoping I don't notice.

She has always slept on the bed next to me. But if I tried to go hold her she would get up and move. She didn't like that. More times than not I'd wake up the next morning with her sleeping next to me on her back with her arm holding  me.

She would also lay on her back with her head on my arm. Then she would use her snout to put my hand above her head then use her paws go grab my hand and pull it down to her chest so I would scratch it. I'd move my arm and she would be put it back all night long. I never taught her that, she just started doing it one day.

I think she has dreams. She will walk into the front room half asleep all groggy then jump on the couch and lay her head on my chest and fall back  sleep. She also thinks she's a lap dog and often insists on laying on my lap. She's 50LBs. Haha. She also insists that I hold her.

I once went to Petco to buy mice for the snakes I had at the time. It was the middle of summer so I locked her in the car with the windows up and the AC on high. I was only going to be a few minutes. And my AC worked great. So I go in and get my mice. As I'm walking to pay for them. The intercom said something about a dog. And I thought, well my dog is in my car. In look down and my dog was running towards me. She rolled down the back window than jumped out to find me. So I decided that wasn't a good idea anymore. She's just too smart for her own good.
