Little Lucky - the tiny but mighty chihuahua - was recently diagnosed with a serious heart condition called Mitral Valve Disease which, if untreated, only gives him a few more months to live. Isa, his Mum, is totally devastated and has been brought to her knees by the news. Lucky is her absolute world and she has pledged to do anything and everything she can to save his life. But she cannot do it alone, so we have set up this fundraiser to help them both.
Since his diagnosis, Lucky has been taking medication to slow down the progression of the disease but, despite this, he has gone into congestive heart failure twice which has put him in intensive care. Each time he has shown his spirited will to live and made it back home, where he belongs.
Lucky's only chance to beat this horrible disease is specialist heart surgery but there is currently NO such treatment in the UK for extremely small dogs like Lucky.
The only cardiology specialist offering this life saving surgery is in Japan, at the Jasmin Clinic . This pioneering treatment, performed by the highly experienced Dr Masami Uechi, has a massive 97% success rate.
Lucky has been thoroughly examined by numerous vets in the UK and has been given the go ahead for surgery in Japan. He has traveled extensively before and we have been told there is no risk in him making the journey from London to Japan. He IS fit to fly for the time being as the medication stalls the disease temporarily. They believe in Lucky and feel this is the best option for him.
After having surgery his heart would reduce back to its normal size. He could come off all the medication. His cough would stop and he would be able to live a normal, happy life.
But, the cost of the surgery alone comes at a huge price of around £20,000 - a cost Lucky's insurance will not cover and an amount that is impossible for one person to raise alone, especially in such a short time frame.
We are pleading for help to raise this for Lucky so Isa can breathe a little whilst she cares for Lucky. She has already taken out all her savings and is working every extra hour so she can pay for flights, accommodation and all other costs that will arise as she travels to the other side of the world .
Lucky has brought so much joy to people and we would love to be able to give back to him in his time of need.
His fun performances, always alongside his mum Isa, have taken centre stage on national TV adverts with some of the world's top brands and arena shows including Crufts. He captures hearts wherever he goes - with fans even travelling across the ocean to get pictures and a paw autograph! He loves to show the world that even though he's small he's ALL dog!
He has always done his bit at charity events helping to raise money for causes and dogs in need. At weekends he can be found in the park with his friends and family before heading home for cosy cuddles on the sofa.
Please dig deep to give Lucky a chance to live;
