Help save our 9-month-old kitten, Bondi, from heart failure

Hi friends, family, and kind strangers!

Our sweet 9-month-old kitten, Bondi, has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. This news has been really hard to receive given how young he is, and we’re reaching out in hopes that we can give him a fighting chance at life.

We brought Bondi home just a few weeks ago. Within days, we noticed he was breathing rapidly, wheezing, and coughing. We rushed him to the vet, where X-rays showed his chest was filled with fluid. He was immediately transferred to the emergency hospital for a chest tap and further testing.

An echocardiogram revealed severe thickening of his heart muscle—a sign of either:

• Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM): a progressive, life-shortening condition, or

• Transient Myocardial Thickening (TMT): a potentially reversible disease with a great long-term prognosis.

The heartbreaking part is… we won’t know which condition Bondi has for roughly 6 months of treatment; However, we can get him out of congestive heart failure and keep him stable long enough to find out! The problem? It’s incredibly expensive and we’re quite overwhelmed.

What Bondi Needs to Survive:

In order to monitor and support Bondi while we wait for a diagnosis, he needs:

• Medications 

• Chest taps (to remove fluid) – currently 2x/month

• Renal blood panels (to monitor side effects from meds) 

• Echocardiograms 

Over the next 6 months, this adds up to thousands of dollars just to keep him stable long enough to find out if he can survive— and thrive!

Why We’re Fighting for Bondi:

Bondi is so young and still has a full life ahead of him!! He is cuddly, playful, and full of life— he brings us so much joy.  Despite everything he’s going through, he’s still chasing toys, begging for treats, and wrestling lovingly with his brother, Alki (they are best buds!!). You’d never know he’s sick just by looking at him. We can’t  justify giving up on such a precious kitten with so much zest for life. 

At only 9 months old, it feels wrong to assume the worst. We want to give him every possible chance to live the full life he deserves. If this turns out to be TMT, he could recover completely. We just need time—and support—to find out.
