Save a home for a Filipino Woman
Beschermde donatie
Hello, I am asking for help for another individual who cannot do this for herself. She, Marivic, is twice a widow, living in an outer province of the Philippines in the same house/home where she has raised four daughters and buried two husbands, the fathers of these girls. They are not in an environment and at a stage in their lives to be able to help much. These daughters are in school, or one serving an internship, just started in a middle eastern country, one in high school and one who may become married and moved to the US without any earning power as a result of immigration regulations, as I understand it.
The emergency is more immediate than would be practical to wait on. Her house which is old was constructed without what we would call "up to code" standards by any means. It has not stood up to the environment in what looks to me as a bit of a jungle but is also in hill country. I have seen photos but don't have a great sense of the logisitics of her home.
A recent typhoon, tore off a portions of her corrugated metal roof. I paid for this new metal roofing and the labor to throw it back up.
The older portion of roof, is leaking, with buckets there to catch the water which is leaking thru. It is also true that the roof is being held up with less than adequate structure. They need some posts and concrete to do the job. The last typhoon, not only did tear off part of the roof, but also blew a hole in a wall and the whole thing is not safe. She, her daughter and anyone visiting, could be injured or worse and homeless also.
Local contractors have quoted a price of 200,000 Philippine pesos, or more than $4,000 and less than $5,000. Thank you for reading and also if you can help. #One more typhoon? Goes without saying. There will be! P.s. I have recently viewed more photos and a short video of this woman's home. One of last years typhoons did significant damage and exposed the even more precarious nature of the situation. She and her teen daughter are in danger, which is possibly even mortal danger. Please consider helping us get over the top. Thank you, the contractor is awaiting payment for some materials with which he can get started saving one of his own villager's home.
