**Sippi Update**
Good news, but still no answers, yet.
I was able to bring her home from the vet hospital Friday 8/15. They started her on a low dose of steroids Thursday afternoon. Her fever broke & she started eating on her own. But her blood platelets are still really low. The doctors are hoping they will go up by next week’s re-check. She has several bruises on her little legs from the IV & several pokes from drawing blood so many times. My poor baby
It is kind of a waiting game right now to see if the steroids are helping or just masking what’s wrong. If they think the steroids are helping (and if results from a few other tests come back negative next week) then they might increasethe dose a little.
The Internal Medicine Doctors think it might be an autoimmune disease that may have been triggered by the vaccines she got the week before we left Mississippi. She had a small reaction last year & got sick after her vaccines but we didn’t why she was sick & it didn’t last this long.
The doctors said she may not be able to get vaccinated anymore. When I take her in for her follow up we’ll talk about it more.
But most importantly she is HOME & we are HAPPY She is still on pain meds & steroids. I’ll take her back next week for a follow up. They should have all the pending test results back & we should have a better idea what the next steps are & if she continues on the steroids at a higher dose.
Again, thank you for all the love, prayers & help!
We love y’all & appreciate it❤️
Mississippi is such a sweet lovable dog!
My sister Dawn has been her loving dog momma for 10 years. As many of you know my sister would do anything for her pups!
Dawn came to Colorado for a quick family visit and is now here until Mississippi can be released from the hospital.
3 weeks ago Mississippi started to limp and her symptoms increased rather quickly. She went from limping to not walking, not eating, and a high fever that won’t go down. She was initially diagnosed with pancreatitis but that has now been ruled out. She spent a night in the hospital last week in Boulder, as well as multiple urgent care visits. She is admitted to CSU animal hospital in the ICU in Fort Collins. CSU has every specialist available to help her, but we are still waiting on a diagnosis and a plan as everything is coming up negative, and the medication they have tried has not taken the fever away.
Mississippi went from an energetic playful dog to not able to eat so quickly our only hope is to get her healthy again to enjoy her life!
As you can imagine the cost of this care has added up rather quickly. Mississippi’s current hospital bill is over $20,000. I’m hoping to help relieve some of the burden of this bill for my sister, so she can continue to try to find a cure for her sweet pup!
