The ghoulish streets of Kensington, where zombie like drug addicts and prostitutes walk the streets trying to survive, looking for "The Answer".
Do me a personal favor and read the attached article. Pause long enough to look into the hollow empty eyes of the lost souls pictured in it. Several of these individuals frequent our services from time to time. This article adequately depicts the neighborhood where our church is located. We are in its heart and we are there hopefully reflecting God's heart.
Our building is over 120 years old and badly in need of major repairs. On behalf of keeping a lighthouse of hope open consider helping us.
With a mix of humility and desperation I ask for your financial generosity. (This is the first time I'm bearing open my soul to give a peak inside)
Often times well meaning movements and individuals inspired hope in our congregation with their desire to help and each time they were met with a spiritual attack of their own for doing so, leaving us feeling alone, again, without the help they intended and another round of hope deferred.
Throughout our 57 year history one individual (outside of our own congregants) stood extra tall by persevering the fight and sent a substantial offering of love. That man, and that church was Dr. Wendell Hutchins II and the wonderful people of The Church of Champions of Houston, Texas. Their action rescued us at a dark time, and the sun shone round about us again. To the both of you, and on behalf of the many people that gather in our church and have knelt at our altar we say a big heartfelt, THANK YOU.
When T. F. Tenney preached here he said, "Joel you are one step away from hell." When Mark Hanby preached here the offering that we gave to him for speaking he turned around and handed it back to me and said, "Joel you folks need this money more than I do." Another prominent minister came to speak for us and his wife was too scared to get out of the car so they left never even coming in the building.
I don't talk about it openly to others around the country because frankly I'm too embarrassed to be this transparent and I don't want to cry openly. But the time has come for me to do just that.
We still are in need of urgent help. Will you prayerfully consider being a part, join our hearts and help us fix our building? This short note cannot adequately tell the tale so you are all welcome to come see us and see for yourself, see the need, meet our people and love on us. Besides you need to eat an authentic original Philly Cheesesteak.
THE NEED IS URGENT! THE CITY HAS CITED THE BUILDING FOR CODE VIOLATIONS. WE CANNOT DO THIS ON OUR OWN.
