My name is Vinaya, and I am reaching out with a humble heart and a mother’s hope. My daughter, Sasha, is currently in her second year at the University of Delaware, pursuing Environmental Engineering with a minor in Civil Engineering. She is a straight-A scholar, a Dean’s List honoree, a dedicated volunteer, and a true leader among her peers. She will complete both Bachelor’s and Masters by summer 2027. Her passion for sustainability, equity, and service shines through in everything she does.

 Sasha has worked so hard to get where she is, and she dreams of using her education to make a lasting difference in the world. But the reality is that education is expensive. So while she’s chasing her dreams, we’re also facing a lot at home. My mom (81) recently had triple bypass surgery and her gallbladder removed. She’s frail, but she does everything she can to care for my dad (78), whose Parkinson’s is getting worse. He’s becoming more immobile, and it takes constant effort to support him. My mom never spends a penny on herself and has never even taken a vacation — her whole life has been about caregiving. Which shows because she served most of her life as a med/surg RN. She even helped me when I got really sick with long-term COVID. Currently I had to have an emergency hysterectomy. This has put me on bedrest and there are new underlying complications. It also prevents me to care for my parents. The truth is, it’s just the four of us. When I’m at work and Sasha’s away at school, my mom is left alone to manage my dad, which i know is exhausting for her. Until I fully heal from the surgery there isn’t much I can to. I can not work until I heal and get the ok from my doctor. When Sasha is home, she jumps right in to help alongside me — cooking, cleaning, and doing whatever’s needed to care for both her grandstands. We all work together to keep things going. I do everything I can to support them, but between the ADL needs, my bills piling up, and the demands of daily life, I am overwhelmed. It has become impossible for me to cover all of Sasha’s tuition, college expenses, and everything else she needs on my own without some help from my own mother. A mother who never buys nothing for herself or even took time to take a vacation because she is left to care for my father and her own house.

 On top of this, I am also supporting my daughter, Sasha myself because her father chooses to be absent. Sasha is in her second year at the University of Delaware. She is a bright young woman, a straight-A scholar, Dean’s List honoree, and a major in Environmental Engineering and a minor in civil Engineering, a student who dreams of making the world more sustainable. She volunteers, leads with compassion, and is an inspiration to everyone who meets her. She working hard to graduate with both Bachelors and Masters by summer 2027.

 What makes Sasha remarkable is not just her success in the classroom or the leadership roles she has embraced—it is the way she inspires others simply by being who she is. She is a young woman who embodies strength and grace, a role model to her peers, and a reminder that perseverance and kindness can coexist. Sasha is the type of person who will leave this world better than she found it, and those around her already feel the impact of her spirit.

 I want nothing more than to keep my family steady and allow Sasha to focus on her studies without the crushing weight of financial hardship. But the reality is, I can’t do this alone.
