Santa Fe 769 Fundraiser
Donation protected
Hi my name is Lori Lindsey and I am a Director of Friends of the 769, the foundation for historic preservation in Madrid. We are working on moving the cherished ATSF 769 Steam Engine to its restoration location. We need to have PNM move major power lines so that we can utilize a standard crane to move it. It will cost well over $25,000 for PNM and crane company. The 769 was driven and parked outside its house one last time in the mid 1950's where it was left to eventually decay. The group "2926 train" volunteers is included to help the ATSF engine 769 restored. Inventory of parts has been taken and the difficult task of digging her out of years of coal mine runoff is in process.
Fast forward to today, we are fundraising to move the train and build a safe restoration environment. The restoration will be long and require help with funding. Expected cost of move and complete operational restoration will cost $1.5 million to $2.0 million. We also will be restoring 4 Railyard Lane where it will be the Madrid Old Coal Town Museum featuring the Engine 769. The hope is that New Mexico will build out or fund more heritage railways for tourism. We intend to have Engine 769 be the flagship engine for a 7 mile commute to Madrid from Waldo, NM.
Your help today will help us get there. Thanks for your generosity. This fundraiser is being managed by Friends of the 769 and is a 501C3 organization. All monies will go to this organization and will pay for the move. Any additional funds will go to a cover for the train with a crane.
I want to thank Andrew Delgado for falling in love with 769 and being the catalyst for this project.
Please read wikipedia and the Mine Shaft Tavern page for more information regarding Engine 769 and Madrid, NM.
Thanks so much, Lori Lindsey
