The Sandra J. Riley College Access Award was created by friends who want to honor a beloved member of our community whose life was defined by love, intellect, and deep connection - to family, to friends, and to her passionate belief that education should be within reach for everyone.
As a Vice President at The College Board during her two-decade career at the organization, Sandra was a mentor to many and a fierce advocate for removing roadblocks and opening doors for those without a clear path to higher education.
This memorial award continues Sandra's mission within our district—her chosen home—by providing a first-generation college applicant at Fox Lane High School in the AVID program (Advancement through Individual Determination) with funds to navigate the college application process in pursuit of a post-secondary education. AVID helps motivated students reach their full potential by providing the skills, support, and guidance needed to take on challenging coursework and start planning for college early. With the support of committed advisors and educators, students gain the confidence and tools to see a future that might otherwise feel out of reach.
While her impact on access to higher education was undeniable, Sandra was first and foremost an extraordinary mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was known for her quick wit, her steady love, and a unique ability to make everyone around her feel seen. This award reflects her spirit by supporting students who possess a strong desire to learn, grow, and build a meaningful future.
Through this endowment, we carry forward Sandra’s greatest gifts: her encouragement and her belief that no one should have to find their way alone. With your support, not only are you ensuring Sandra’s legacy continues, you are becoming a partner in a student’s future and changing lives in our community for generations to come.
We welcome donations of all sizes and amounts.
If your company offers a matching program, you can donate directly to FLMSA and note the 'Sandra J Riley College Access Award' to increase your impact. Please contact us if you would like to contribute outside of the Gofundme platform.
