Announcing the Sam & Hayes Brown Friendship Scholarship
On March 8, 2020, I lost three beloved members of my family: Lynnette Brown, Sam Brown, and Hayes Brown. Lynnette was my sister. Sam and Hayes were her sons and my nephews.
They were the cornerstones of my life, and they are irreplaceable.
As the two-year anniversary approaches of this unfathomable, senseless tragedy, I am shifting the focus of this GoFundMe campaign. Initially, my goal was to cover expenses associated with the horrible aftermath of the events in 2020.
Later, inspired to create something meaningful from my indescribable grief, I started the Sam & Hayes Brown Friendship Scholarship. This scholarship celebrates the power of friendship and honors the positive impact Lynnette, Sam, and Hayes had within their community near and far.
The 2021 scholarship recipients were Foster High School graduates Kai O’Donnell and Maddie Miller. Both recipients used their scholarship money to pay educational expenses.
This scholarship program has given me solace, and is part of my greater determination to keep alive the enduring legacy of Lynnette, Sam, and Hayes. Many in their community continue to express that their hearts and prayers are with these innocent victims.
