In August 2016 I was given the devastating news that not only did I have breast cancer but that it had already spread throughout my skeleton, the lining of my lungs and into my skull. I was told I had a couple of months to 2 years to live. I underwent 18 gruelling weeks of weekly chemotherapy which thankfully shrank the tumours. I know that I will never be cured. There have been a few bumps along the way when the clever cancer cells have found a way to get around my treatment and started to grow again. Thanks to research carried out by Breast Cancer Now there are more and more treatment options being discovered to help people like me live longer. They also support breast cancer nurse specialists in many hospitals throughout the UK. I would be lost without the support I have received from the team at RUH Bath.
So how can we help Breast Cancer Now continue their work? When I heard Sir Chris Hoy was planning an event to raise awareness of stage 4 cancer I knew I had to take part. I’m not a cyclist - the furthest I had cycled before starting to train for the event was 35 miles. I have signed up to cycle the red route - 56 hilly miles around Glasgow on 7th September 2025. As always John will be by my side supporting me in my mad ideas (and waiting for me to catch up at the top of the hills!)
Please help us raise as much as possible to help Breast Cancer Now continue their great work.
Thank you for your support.
