I am Sahndra Smith, In September 2015, thanks to you all I recieved stem cell therapy that has made a significant difference in my condition, but another treatment is required to give ultimate results. So once again I am writing this to tell you my story and to ask you for your help.
I have been diagnosed with sarcoidosis since 1984.
Sarcoidosis can and will move through different parts of your body, attacking whichever organ(s) it pleases.
Right now my lungs are affected. I had a collapsed lung in 2010 and due to a major medical oop's, I had to go to a nursing home to get antibiotics around the clock for hospital-induced pneumonia, as well as a reinjured lung.
As a result, the flaps on the lung air sacs have to learn to regain the elasticity and ability to exchange oxygen for the carbon dioxide trapped in the lungs. To help this process, I now have to be on oxygen 24 hours a day and at least 7 hours a night on a bi-pap machine that blows 12 pounds of air through my lungs to clear the carbon dioxide.
I have an opportunity to go back to Pittsburgh, Pa. again to take part in stem cell therapy to furthur my recovery, It is non-invasive and takes only 3-4 days for treatment. They will seperate my own stem cells from my own blood and give them back to me in an IV. It is the most promising option for me yet. The program has a 71% success rate, however, Medicare nor Medicaid insurances will cover the procedure because it is deemed experimental. I must raise $8,500 to cover the cost of the procedure,travel and board for four(4) days.
This is an urgent plea. I'm praying to raise the money to get back to the Lung Institute in the very near future so that I can continue the ongoing progress that my lungs are making.
