A New Beginning: The First Steps

Hello,
My name is Connie and I need your help. I have two and a half more months until I move to the UK permanently to be with my husband. I feel very fortunate to have found him and we love each other very much. I had struggled with the idea for asking for donations for the cost of relocating my cat (Scotch) and my service dog (Kira). Honestly, I felt downright selfish. My husband and friends have reassured me that asking for help in my circumstance was just as valid as anyone else’s because my pets are my family. My service dog is important to my mental well-being. If paying a large sum and asking for help keeps me living it’s worth it.

Coming from a physically, emotionally, and sexually abusive family, I became homeless at the age of 16. I suffer from PTSD and severe DID and these issues greatly affect my life, but I am looking for donations primarily because I have an active stalker who I do not trust law enforcement to protect me from. After years of severe abuse, I managed to get a restraining order, but it expires soon. He knows my work schedule and general location and I am 100% sure he will attempt further abuse if I remain here once it is no longer effective. Where I live, extending these protection orders is extremely complicated.

This is why getting to move to my husband’s country is so much more than an opportunity to be with the man I love. I am currently staying with a close friend of many years. I am feeling safer these days staying in the sanctuary of her home with her husband, both of whom are very supportive. I do not have to avoid certain freeways, cities, or community spaces. This does not mean I have given up on being less of a burden but I do need some help.

On my 29th birthday, my stalker broke into my home and stole about $10,000 of my belongings. I called the cops but despite Ring camera evidence he was not charged, and we had to address the issue in small claims court. I got back $1,000. The judge did ask my stalker why he thought he could just take my belongings and his response was “because she doesn’t use it”. I won the court case but not enough to cover the financial damages or to replace my belongings.

Since I have relocated to my friend’s house, I am actively looking for work in addition to my primary job to continue saving for relocating my furry family, my move, recoup from my stalker’s financial abuse, and save to afford my visa. If there is any way you or someone can help spare a few dollars or if you cannot please spread the word of my GoFundMe my pets and I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you so much,

Connie
