Our mom, Stephanie Saccurato, has always fought for me & my brother since we were kids. She has made us the fighters we are today. She is the reason, inspiration, heart, & soul behind us and who we are today. Now it is our turn to fight for her. My mom has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer, and is currently undergoing treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in West Harrison. Due to the severity of how aggressively the cancer has affected her body she is not able to work at this time, and lives in daily pain & discomfort. This is heartbreaking to see to anyone who knows our mom and the person, bright light, and loving person she is. All she ever wants is to bring joy to everyone around her, and be a beacon of light, hope, love, and positivity to those she loves.
Our mom doesn't have anything, but gives all she has to someone in need, or just in need of some light, love, or positivity. She currently lives in a very small apartment, and is the caretaker for our 94year old grandmother.
Our mom has been fighting all her life. As children she fought for us to survive. She raised us as a single mom after divorcing my father who was abusive to her for years, and a deadbeat dad on top of it. She did all she could for us to survive, and would tell us everyday that we were her inspiration to fight on, now we hope to be that and more for her and her new battle.
As children she always pushed us to be individuals, to believe in ourselves, to be leaders, & most importantly that ANYTHING is possible if we go after it.
We continue to live our lives that way believing ALL is possible, and that is why we believe she can, & will beat this terrible disease, but she is in great need of help to do so.
Our mom has had to stop working at the job she loves, being a school security guard. This was not just a job, but she felt it was her purpose...not only to protect the children, but to make them smile, & be a positive impact on their lives.
Now that she cannot work, she has no income. She has no way of covering all of her medical expenses, transportation expenses to/from treatment, or the expenses of food for her & my grandmother, or for just rent & daily living. She is in great need of help.
Before she was diagnosed she recently told me that she "wanted to be a fighter like me", now I tell her that she has her fight, and that she is a greater fighter than I can ever hope to be.
Our mom cannot fight this battle alone. Any assistance that you can provide will be so deeply appreciated, and will provide not only much needed financial support, but emotional strength & support as well, and that is where the greatest of victories are won.
