Sunbury Skiff & Punting Club 24hour Challenge & Open Day
Sunbury Skiff & Punting Club (SSPC) was founded in 2010 as a non-profit sports club and is the youngest club in the Skiff Racing Association. Our racing boats are traditional Thames skiffs, and we are hoping to build a permanent boat shed at Desborough Sailing Club to protect the wooden skiffs and blades through all weather and have a place to maintain them. Last year we achieved the target of raising the roof, now we need the walls!
So, we are raising funds by challenging ourselves to skiff non-stop for 24 hours around Desborough Island on the River Thames.
Starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 25th, we will row traditional Thames skiffs in relay laps around the Island until 5 p.m. on Saturday 26th, the next day. We aim for up to 48 laps or more.
Why not come down and try Skiffing on the Saturday Open Day? It's a social and fun sport for all levels of fitness.
Please support us by sponsoring us either per lap, with a one-off donation, or by coming and cheering us on. :-)
One Skiff, Many Laps and Many Laughs
Donating will help a traditional sport survive, and an enthusiastic sports club of 30 members will continue racing, training, and skiffing.
Please join us at Desborough Sailing Club Ferry Lane, Shepperton TW17 9LQ.
