3.85 GPA SPELMAN SCHOLAR LIVING IN CAR

Donation protected
Seasons greetings to my dearest friends, family, Spelman College, AUC colleagues, and the city of Atlanta. I am currently experiencing a hardship I can no longer manage on my own. I have struggled in silence for the past four months and I have reached my breaking point. I am currently living in my car which has no heating system. Last night I believe it was below 30 degrees. My son Kingston is safe from the elements for now, but we desperately need help now.

I have done my best to seek financial and emotional help from my immediate family and they are either unwilling or unable to help me. In an effort to make you more comfortable with giving, I will share more of my story.

I moved to Atlanta in August of 2022 to attend the number one HBCU, Spelman College. I am studying Political Science with the intention of working in venture capital. While in Atlanta I have worked really hard to maintain a 3.85 GPA, and while it was not easy it is one of my greatest accomplishments. In February I had the pleasure of participating in a pitch competition where I introduced my nonprofit organization, "A Choice To Change The World (@actctw), on the campus of Morehouse College. In June of 2023 my four-year-old son with special needs, Kingston joined me here in Atlanta. Having to transition to a full-time mother and full-time student has been extremely difficult and the stress has affected my health in ways I didn't know was possible. As a result, I have lost over 45 pounds in the course of two months. Although managing my stress is overwhelming I have not let it stop me from pursuing my goals or from being a great mother. As a result of my hard work and relentless will, my son was named the student of the month this past September, in his Pre-K class.

In closing, I hope you find it in your heart to help my son Kingston and myself out this holiday season. I recently applied for a job at The Cheesecake Factory and if you can help me get a job as a waitress it will help me out a ton. I currently need to fix the heating system in my car. I also need money for food. I have found an apartment not too far from campus that I can afford, and I am working to increase my income. If anyone can put me in contact with someone who can help me out, or if you could share my story with the local news media, it would be greatly appreciated.
