On June 21st Dana Point Harbor Partners sent a notice to slip renters that Dana Point Harbor slip rates were not competitive with private marina's (that they oversee) in Newport Beach. In this letter they indicated that after spending money on the marina, landside operations and entitlements (paying themselves first) they would be increasing the slip rates to cover maintenance that was already covered by slip rates. Slips for boats under 35 feet the rate would increase 26%. The larger slips for boats 55 feet and above, which includes many of the live-aboard slip renters who use their boats as tiny homes, the cost of the slip rent would increase by a minimum of 90%.

Dana Point Harbor, a public harbor, has slip rates which are already the highest of the local marina's from Los Angeles County south to San Diego (based on available public figures). Additionally, those who live on their boats already pay an increased slip rent of 40% over the cost of the slip.

We, the slip renters, have started this go-fund-me to help with the legal fight against this slip rent hike and to hold Dana Point Harbor Partners accountable to the commitments to the harbor they are already failing to uphold. Maintenance hasn't been consistent, or safe, and the gate systems for parking have been changed twice and don't always work. Additionally, they have lied about the sea lions being in only one basin (they are in both). The cost of the slip rents would increase to the point where owners of small boats couldn't afford to have boats in the harbor, the slip rents would increase to the price of a studio apartment, and boaters would have to move their boats over 100 miles away to the nearest harbor with a vacancy.

Please help us fight the good fight and stop what is essentially an eviction notice.
