Alex Rowney met some students at Columbia College in Chicago and formed the band Soft Candy with them way back in 2010. Since then, lineups have changed consistently and it was difficult to get recorded material finished. Egos clashed and words were exchanged. But this year in 2017, things are looking up for the Candy bois. With the addition of drummer Allen Wincezwski and retention of die-hard Candy bois Cameron Cowles on guitar and Alex Insco on bass, psychedelic rock and classical piano guru Alex Rowney was able to save the band from shallow tantrums and wasted years. In a sudden turn of events we have recently completed the first full length album THE LÜVRS AND THE H8ERS , recorded @ Treehouse Records on analog tape. FOLLOW US on Instagram to see some cool up close shots of us in action while recording! It was the first project on which Alex utilized almost every possible musical skill he has, such as playing French horn and trumpet, singing walls of backing vocals, as well as composing string and flute arrangments, mixing, playing keyboards, and some lead guitars!
This all of course would not have been possible without the contributions of Cameron Cowles: guitars, Alex Insco: bass and drums, Kyle Crager: bass (soft candy's original bass player!), Ben Simpson, drums, and long time collaborator and vocalist Adam Pezen, the latter two of which decided to leave the band in 2016. Italicized names are no longer members. Also contributing were Nora Barton on Cellos, Emily Nash on Violins, and Allison Duffy on Flutes.
To complete the process of getting the album out, I am going to need your help. Your donations will be to help pay for recording costs ($3500), mastering costs ($660), album art ($500), pressing the first 300 LPs (about $2,800) plus international copyrights and trademark for our band name ($2000+), plus press releases (amount unknown), making a grand total of at least $9,460 projected expenses.
Then I will need some funds to help advertise and distribute the album (projected $1k-2k). We are also planning on developing merchandise such as T-shirts, hats, refrigerator magnets, and buttons (prices TBD).
Words alone cannot express how grateful we are for the donations you provide. It truly takes a village! It has become increasingly difficult to make it as a musician or artist in the current system, and crowdfunding helps to make the dreams of musicians like me come true.
