SAMSARA : A BIPOC made short-film

DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE:

The creation of art during this pandemic has been essential to consumers and creators alike. But unfortunately due to the lack of opportunities available to artists and less ways to collect money, it has been difficult moving art projects forward. I am Pallaví aka Fijiana, a Bay Area rapper and singer, and I'm raising money for a short film for my upcoming EP. The funds collected go first and foremost to paying the BIPOC creatives who are working on this project i.e the director, producer, DP, talent, stylist, make up and hair stylists, production designer, editors, ADs and also go into paying for all of the necessary equipment to make this happen. Contributing to this will help build  many upcoming  creatives and provide a pathway for new art to be birthed into this world.

Thank you for every one of you who read this and contributed so far! I love you all!

ABOUT THE FILM

Let me tell you a little about the film: SAMSARA.

SAMSARA is a 5 part short film that serves as the visual accompaniment to my E.P.  It is also a narrative continuation of my new music video,
DIRECTION which  you can watch here:

In its simplest form, SAMSARA means ‘the circle of life’- the indefinitely repeated cycles of birth, misery, and death caused by karma.

*SAMSARA tells the story of a soul that loses itself to its ego in 5 visual narratives. A woman is born. However, on her search for her purpose, she realizes that she needs to reconnect with her former self- each revisit becomes an exploration of a different version of her ego in a different world where she experiences ‘Samsara’ in each world.  The worlds become specific times in history where she sees the experiences of black and brown women, and relives a past life and eventually all that comes together in her experiencing deeper connections with others and herself.

*Each narrative is a representation of  struggles I've had in my self-acceptance as a woman of color- from my skin, to my identity, to my sexuality and my connection with other people. This will be brought to life through poetry, music and a visual narrative.

By donating to this film:

1. Your donation will ensure  that all the models, actors, crew and post production crew will be compensated for their time.

2. You are enabling us to have the best equipment needed to provide the visual and  obtain licences to shoot at the locations we want.

3. You  are saying that BIPOC creators deserve to be paid in their creation of works of art and affirming that BIPOC artists are worthy of being paid for their artistry.

4, You are making it possible for the team to submit the finished film to short film festivals internationally.

5. You are validating that creators of color deserve to have their voices heard, and that their stories matter.

6. You will be a trailblazer in helping create a masterpiece visual experience
