Ryleigh King's Bike

This sweet little eight year old love is named Ryleigh- and all who know her are blessed by her contagious laugh and sweet joyful spirit. Despite her complex medical challenges, this girl is all about the thrills of life! She loves roller coasters, being pushed by her big sister (as fast as possible) in her wheel chair, doing tricks in the swimming pool, and even driving downhill in the car with the windows down!
About four years ago, Ryleigh outgrew her typical tricycle, and since then her parents have been on the hunt for an adaptive bike that would work for her. After a good bit of searching they found the perfect one- the Duet “go anywhere” tandem! It has all of the adaptations that Ryleigh would need to be safe and secure, and it even has the option of detaching the wheel chair when they get to their destination. So cool! Seeing that bike got them dreaming about all the new areas the whole family could explore together, and what a kick Ryls would get out of the adventure and fun it would offer.
But, there is one big challenge that stands in the way. A bike like this is SUPER expensive! Janet and Bernie, her amazing parents, have pursued the funds for this bike from every angle. They started by talking to Ryleigh’s doctors, having them write compelling letters to the insurance company about how therapeutic a bike like this would be for their sweet girl. Unfortunately, the request was denied because they viewed it as strictly recreational. They even submitted a new request about a different bike that would be more like a traditional therapy bike, but just received a denial from the insurance company about that one too. They even thought about taking a wheel chair and a bicycle and just making their own! Fortunately, her safety prevailed and they didn’t do that. They want this so badly for Ryls, but have been unable to make it happen. Yet.

As you can see, we LOVE Ryleigh and her whole family, and don’t want another day to go by without her feeling a rush of wind in her hair and a tickle in her belly. It’s in every child’s nature to want to explore and have fun, and we don’t want Ryls to miss out just because the bike she needs is too expensive. Life is too short!
Y'all Lets buy Ryleigh a BIKE!
Let’s help her experience the wind in her hair and the adventure of life- for many years to come, they would forever be grateful to experience their first family bike ride ever!
Love- Meredith Arledge (Cousin of the family)
