Rusnė Needs Our Help!

The “Mamų Unija” met Rusnė’s family when they were faced with devastating news — their youngest daughter, not yet two years old, was diagnosed with retinoblastoma (eye cancer). This rare disease cannot be treated in Lithuania, so the family had to confront an incredibly difficult challenge: a long and costly treatment journey in Switzerland.

Last July, Rusnė underwent surgery to remove one of her eyes, as chemotherapy had failed to shrink the tumor. Her eye prosthesis will soon need to be replaced. Just a few weeks ago, this brave little girl celebrated her third birthday and must continue treatment at a clinic in Switzerland for several more years to fully recover.

Although the medical expenses are covered by the national health insurance, the travel and accommodation costs for the family amount to at least €40,000 per year. They must travel to Switzerland every 6 to 8 weeks.

“That kind of money is just a dream for us. I haven’t been able to work for the past six years — I’ve been raising our daughters and taking care of the household. When I was finally planning to return to work, we received Rusnė’s diagnosis. My husband works incredibly hard as an aluminum structures painter and takes on any extra jobs he can, but we’re still struggling,” says Rusnė’s mother, Diana.

To save money, the family drives to Switzerland by car.

With hope in her heart, Diana turns to the kindness of others so that Rusnė can continue her life-saving treatment in Switzerland.

Rusnytei reikia mūsų pagalbos!

„Mamų unija“ su Rusnytės šeima susipažino, kada šeima išgirdo diagnozę – dvejų metukų neturinčiai jų pagrandukei diagnozuota retinoblastoma (akies vėžys). Ši liga Lietuvoje nėra gydoma, taigi šeima susidūrė su nepaprastai sudėtingu iššūkiu – ilgu ir brangiu gydymosi procesu Šveicarijoje. Pernai liepą Rusnytei pašalinta akytė, nes chemoterapija nepadėjo sumažinti auglio. Visai netrukus bus pakeistas akytės protezas. Mergytė, kuri prieš kelias savaites šventė savo trečiąjį gimtadienį, dar kelerius metus tęs gydymą Šveicarijos klinikoje, kad visiškai pasveiktų.

Ir nors gydymas yra kompensuojamas ligonių kasų, tačiau kelionės ir apgyvendinimo išlaidos per metus šeimai kainuoja ne mažiau kaip

40 000 Eur. Vykti į Šveicariją mažylei su šeima tenka kas 6-8 savaites.

„Tokia suma mums yra tik svajonė. Aš pati nedirbu jau šešerius metus – auginu dukras, rūpinuosi namais. Kai planavau grįžti į darbą – sužinojome apie Rusnės ligą. Mano vyras dirba be galo daug, jis yra aliuminio konstrukcijų dažytojas. Griebiasi bet kokių papildomų darbų, nes pinigų labai trūksta“, – sako Rusnytės mama Diana. Norėdama sutaupyti, Rusnytės šeima į Šveicariją keliauja automobiliu.

Su didele viltimi Diana laukia gerų žmonių paramos, kad Rusnė galėtų tęsti gydymą akies vėžio klinikoje Šveicarijoje.
