Running to Raise Funds for The Shrewsbury Ark!
It seemed like a good idea at the time...
I've signed up to run the Shrewsbury metric half marathon (13km) on Sunday 29th September to raise much needed funds for The Shrewsbury Ark.
The Ark is a totally independent charity dedicated to supporting Shrewsbury's street homeless and those in temporary accommodation. It is a safe, unique and crucial space for the most vulnerable in our town, and everyone who walks through the door to The Ark is treated with dignity and respect.
As well as providing hot meals, shower and laundry facilities, at The Ark clients can also access support for mental well being, literacy lessons, be signposted to additional support services, learn new skills, such as cooking, sewing, arts and crafts, and have the opportunity to sit and talk or read.
The men and women who access The Ark are all someone's daughter, son, brother or sister who, for whatever reason, need that extra support. There is no shame in needing a helping hand at any time and I have been privileged to witness the difference The Ark's support is making to people's lives. It may start with small steps but it is the beginning of a longer journey!
The Shrewsbury Ark receives no government or council funding and relies on fundraising, donations and the goodwill of others.
And once I'd told them that I'd run to raise funds I haven't been able to back out!
Whatever I can raise will go directly to The Ark. Your donations will quite literally help to keep The Ark open, so please give what you can afford!
And I promise that I will cross that finish line on 29th Sept (even if I have to walk the bit where no-one is watching!!)
Many thanks, Sue xx
