Charles City High School Rock Climbing Wall!
For the last year I have been teaching an outdoor education program at our high school. Consistently the most rewarding part of the class for the students is when we go to Backbone State Park in Iowa. While we are there students get to experience rock climbing and it is transformative for the students. I have seen star athletes do terrible and the un-cool not really athletic students blow them away when climbing.
My goal is to build an indoor rock climbing wall at our school that can be used by multiple groups in our community. Our school, is in Northeast Iowa. We are a medium sized rural community, that is the heart and soul of America(Our town slogan is "America's Hometown). First, it will be part of the curriculum for our outdoor education class and for our gym classes. Second, it can benefit our local Boy and Girl Scouts group. And third, I am active in our local chapter of Big Brothers/Big Sisters and it will be a great activity for our Bigs and Littles to do together. The Rock Climbing Wall will also be a project based learning activity, getting constructed and maintained by a combination of classes including my outdoor class, industrial technology, and art. Of course, we will bring in experts and engineers from our community to guide and inspect our work.
The total cost of the construction material for the wall is over $16,000. The $1,000 dollars that I am asking donations for will be dedicated to obtaining the harnesses, helmets, and the safety pads that we will need for it.

To support this fundraiser, I am going to do something ridiculous, I am going to try to run a Rugged Maniac race in Minnesota on September 16th. This is like an American Ninja Warrior competition mixed with a 5K. Here is a link to the race's website: Rugged Maniac . I am looking for people to sponsor my Run for the Wall. If you want to chip in for the students of Charles City I and them would greatly appreciate it. Please pass this along to as many people as you can. Thank you.
