Rally for Rufus

Rufus isn't feeling himself lately, and he needs your help!

If you know Jared Bean, you also know Rufus, no way around that. Recently Jared informed me that Rufus had become sick, and will require extensive medical treatment. This treatment is not cheap, and will likely run anywhere from $5,000-$6000+. Jared knew from the start that no matter how expensive, he would not give up on Rufus, ever. I knew right away that I wanted to help however I could, which is how this GoFundMe Campaign got started. Below is Jared's story...

"Rufus is my 85 pound, handsome, sweet, gentle, roughly 3-year old American bulldog. I adopted Rufus in 2016. He was a stray who was surrendered to a shelter in Athol, MA. He moved between shelters until he was adopted by a sweet older couple. They soon realized that he had limited training, a puppy personality, and poor manners- he liked to dispute who was in control of the leash (and had the strength to back it up!). Seeing his potential, yet unable to control him, they put up an ad in the newspaper to find him another home.

My parents came across Rufus in the paper and decided to go see him. They called me as soon as they left, telling me they had a surprise for my college graduation. Rufus’ former family was interviewing a few potential adopters, but seeing that I had the strength to handle him, they felt confident to leave him in my hands. Around this time, I was finishing up college and dealing with a number of life’s challenges. I found Rufus and Rufus found me at the perfect time. After weeks of classes and intensive training (and lots of treats), a flip switched- as if he had been waiting to see if I stayed. Now we’re inseparable. I eat lunch with him every day, he loves being my copilot and going on adventures, vacations, and he even has permission to come to work with me on occasion. For those of you that have met him, you know he is a giant lap dog- always needing to be cuddled or give kisses.

Sadly, Rufus has not been feeling himself for a couple months now. After countless inconclusive tests, we got a diagnosis. At a very young age, Rufus has developed an aggressive form of t-cell lymphoma. We have been meeting with a specialist at VESH in South Deerfield, MA. We have already begun chemotherapy and I plan to do everything I can for him. He showed a response to the first treatment and is already showing improvements in his energy and mood. We are hopeful to get him well!"

ALL proceeds from this campaign will go directly to treatments for Rufus to get him back up and running!
