Royal Revival a Latina Owned Small Business

Royal REVIVAL is an LA-based brand that was conceived by industry veteran, Ingrid Rodriguez. Ingrid, an immigrant to the US, had a modest upbringing in Los Angeles and was able to escape the daily norm through a pop culture which later became the seed for creating the upcycled brand ROYAL REVIVAL; taking something once discarded as trash and infusing new life into it so as it could bring new wearer memories and adventures. After two years in the making, Royal Revival opened its first store doors in early March just days before the “safer at home” order was issued by Governor Newsom.

At the end of May, waves of protestors took to the streets of Los Angeles in response to the tragic death of George Floyd at the hands of the police. People from all different backgrounds flocked to the streets in large, organized and unorganized, groups to march in solidarity against our corrupt criminal justice system. While most of the participants were well-intentioned, these crowds occasionally drew opportunistic individuals like looters. On May 30th, the Royal Revival store on La Brea Blvd was one of the unlucky victims of vandalism. When the store was vandalized, 80% of the inventory was stolen as well as property damage was done to the store’s interior. Years' worth of Ingrid’s hard labor building Royal Revival from the bottom up was ripped from underneath her. This unlucky turn of events has hit hard, but despite her personal losses, Ingrid’s viewpoint on the issue remains the same. Ingrid firmly believes that ”the impact of the movement is more important than my business.”

These acts of violence that occurred to her store were done out of anger and frustration over decades-long failure to reform the criminal justice system in the United States. Ingrid doesn’t condone violence in any form nor the destruction of property, but it is in these moments we get the public’s attention. This movement is demanding justice for George Floyd, and many of his predecessors, who were victims of police violence. Broken windows and stolen garments can always be replaced human life cannot.

Despite all of Ingrid’s financial setbacks, she has chosen to use this opportunity to serve a bigger purpose than herself. She will be donating 30% of all proceeds to three charities that support black lives and communities of color. The proceeds will be split between the NAACP, Nationwide Bail Fund, and the Black Artists and Designers Guild. Royal Revival wants full transparency and will provide all the information once the charity donation has been made on the company site and social channels. Royal Revival has always been a company with the ethos to build up local suppliers and emerging artists of all nationalities and backgrounds; and as the company builds and grows, so does the impact on these people! We are asking for support to help get the business running again and these charitable organizations who have been on the ground fighting the good fight at the local and national level for years.

An insurance claim was filed after the Royal Revival store was vandalized, but it's been an extremely long and drawn-out process. Unfortunately at this time, the insurance company has only given Ingrid 1/3 of the amount in damages. After several months of waiting to hear a resolution from the insurance company and trying to not take away from the movement, the time has come that we turn to you and ask for community support!
