Introduction (Who I am): Hello, my name is Camille (Cam). I am 24 years old living in an apartment with three cats and my roommate, Silas. I am a part of the LGBT+ community; however, for the sake of formalities I won’t go into detail about my preferences and orientation. Since I was a child, I have always strived to help people and animals alike. I’m sure both my parents could tell you stories about all the times I’ve tried to help injured (or even dead) animals; but, I’ve always been the kind of person to help people as well. Growing up there have always been times where I always wished that I could do more for those around me. I had an over empathetic heart and cried tears of frustration for the plights of my community and our little furry family members. Having grown up in the USA, but also being given schooling and housing in Brazil with family, every summer, I’ve come face to face with starving and homeless children and adults. Although I know that I cannot help everyone in the world, as I am only one person, I wanted to create a place where I could help in the ways that I know I can. And as of writing this, I plan to do just that in the Northern Atlanta/Georgia area by attempting this project!
Miss Rosie (Who Is She?): Miss Rosie is none other than the dog that I had grown up with and raised as a family member. She was my best friend, my pride and joy, and a big part of my and my family’s lives. I have known Rosie since I was 5, and even in my lowest points she was a reason to keep striving for better in my own unique way. August 9th, 2017 our family had brought her to the vet for a final goodbye. After a few years of struggle, I knew that little miss Rosie wasn’t just an ordinary dog- and that day I experienced the loss of a loved one so dear to me for the first time. Of course, as I crossed the final threshold of my teenage years and into adulthood (the big 2-0), I wept over how much more I could’ve done, but how little I had to change things. She was 15 years old when she passed away, and I knew that regardless she lived a life as good as any dog could hope for. That feeling of wanting to do more to help never left even after she did. And spending countless nights awake and anxious has led me to this point in my life, as well as the decision to raise funds for this wish of mine: To be able to do more. And if no longer for Rosie… then for other lives and other living beings that just need it. So this organization/home will affectionately be called Rosie’s House/Home; named after her. (Me and Miss Rosie as kiddos)
How it will work: The animals would be housed in the extra rooms/basement level (depending on the house purchased for this endeavor). We would then have temporary live-in volunteers that would help with caring and playing for the animals. Our goal is to give an opportunity to LGBT+ youth to leave abusive and toxic housing situations; or find a temporary sanctum for those forcefully evicted from their homes by unaccepting and aggressive relatives. It’s like Cat Cafe meets AirBnB! However, we will also be a home base for an animal shelter/rescue. The idea is to temporarily house the animals and LGBT+ youth until each can find forever homes.
=For the animals, it will be to find families to adopt them, love them, and care for them.
= For the LGBT+ youth the goal to be able to reach self-sustainability.
-The experience with volunteering to care for the animals can be used on resumes.
-Finding a safe and comfortable space to be themselves; finding a comforting environment with animals that reduce anxiety and stress and ease depression.
-Instead of paying $1,000+ for rental of a one bedroom apartment; it is a cheaper rental (pending price range) + volunteer work with the animals. Allowing them to save money to be able to eventually move out on their own and become self-sufficient!
**We do plan on holding mandatory donation fees for each adoption which will include microchips, vaccinations, spay/neutering, and transportation of the animal to their new homes.
**The room rentals will be on a month-to-month basis, all proceeds for room rentals will be for the maintenance of the household and the animals sheltered/rescued.
**The rescue plans on specializing on smaller animals. (Cats, small dogs, ferrets, rabbits, etc.) Further details will be discussed after housing is secured (i.e. Vet assist., rental room fees, human services assistance, etc.). We will continue to update on our gofundme page to further keep transparency and milestones!
Breakdown of What is Needed: We are currently looking through the housing market to ensure that we can secure a house that will not run into any issues with HOA, or cause disturbances with neighbors with plenty of space. We would like to attempt to cash-pay to keep up only with utility bills. So a current breakdown is as follows: $250,000 for housing. (We are attempting to only purchase a home for approximately $200k-$250 range. This will be the first milestone) $100,000 for home renovations, food & supplies, and furnishings. (If the house needs any repairs, renovations, or the dreaded replacement of carpet… we want to be able to fund this house’s renovations and furnishings to be comfortable for both the animals and people living in it. This definitely includes appliances!)
**Any remaining donations/balances will be used to maintain amenity/utility for the house. (i.e. Water, electricity, lawn care, Cable/Phone & Internet, etc.)
Thank You: Thank you so much for your donations, shares, and support. Every little bit counts, and for something that matters the most to me. I want to be able to make a difference in the lives of many. So if you believe in me... believe in the mission I've taken on, please please please help. Pass it onto your friends, and let's help make a difference in the lives of homeless pets and youths in the LGBT+ community that need it the most. (Last few pictures of me and Rosie...
