“You don’t have what it takes” - Advice from a career counselor after I told her I wanted to pursue a career in television and film. Although she would end up leaving the college, her advice never left me. Over the last few years, I have built my career on one simple principle: “Anything is possible.” It is what I told myself after I won my first Telly Award and now it is what I tell myself now as I try to turn a dream into a reality.
For the last two years, I have worked as a content creator for Molloy College where I have directed and edited promotional videos for the PR department. My projects have resulted in receiving seven awards, one being a Telly Award in 2016. Outside of Molloy College, I have worked in New York City as an assistant editor in both film and television.
After four years of hard work, I received a once in a lifetime opportunity. I have been chosen to be accepted into The Television Academy Foundation Internship Program. The Television Academy is a prestigious program in Los Angeles that only selects 50 students nationwide. I was lucky enough to be selected for my skills in editing. Though this is a paid internship, I am responsible for my own housing and living expenses.
I have until June to raise enough money and I fear working at CVS will not be enough in order to make this happen. I appreciate any help I can get.
I aspire to become the best at my craft and believe this opportunity will be a life changing moment in my young career. Thank you for taking the time to read this!
