ROCK THE ROOFTOP
Fixing the roof for the next generation of rock.
WHO WE ARE:
The Detroit School of Rock and Pop Music® is a community music school located in Royal Oak, Michigan. We provide exciting and motivating musical experiences, playing music people enjoy, with some of the region’s most successful producers and mentors. With everything from recording studio field trips to full concerts and recording sessions, we create opportunities for the most passionate and motivated students from the region to get together and Stop Practicing... Start Performing®
The students have played numerous concerts and helped with events and institutions such as, 10 Foreigner shows with Kid Rock at DTE Energy Music Theater, Cedar Point Amusement Park, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Palace of Auburn Hills, The Royal Oak Holiday Magic Parade (televised), The Henry Ford Museum, The Detroit Zoo, The Detroit Science Center, The Detroit Children's Museum, The Parade Company, Arts Beats and Eats, The Royal Oak Clay Glass and Metal Show, The Milford Memories Festival, Farmington Founders Festival, Hard Rock Cafe - Pittsburgh, Chicago and Detroit, Tours to New York City, Memphis, Nashville, Columbus, Chicago and many many others.
They have also been featured on Fox 2 News, WXYZ Channel 7, and WDIV Channel 4, Detroit Public TV as well as web campaigns by Microsoft and Intuit. They have been featured in articles on CNN.Money.com, dbusiness, The Detroit Free Press, The Detroit News, Metromode.com, The Marion Star and numerous other features.
We have also hosted music clinics for the students with artists such as; Larry Fratangelo (Kid Rock), DJ Invisible (Xhibit), Kris Pooley (Kay Perry, The Smashing Pumpkins, Gwen Stefani, Morrissey), Ginger Pooley (The Smashing Pumpkins), Luis Resto (Eminem, Was Not Was, Producer), Herschel Boone (Kid Rock), Ben West (Songwriter with P!nk), Robert Breithaupt (Capital University), The Motor City Horns (Bob Seger, Justin Timberlake) to name a few. Cultural exchanges have included concerts with Stax Music Academy in Memphis, Tennessee; Columbia College in Chicago, Illinois; Galloup School of Guitar Building in Big Rapids, Michigan; Silkeborg Højskole from Silkeborg, Denmark; and clinics with professional musicians at recording studios in Nashville, Memphis, New York City, Chicago, and the Detroit Area.
COMMUNITY:
Our community outreach and philanthropic work has taken music by students and staff to St. Aloysius’ Block Party in Detroit, Michigan; The Salvation Army in Warren, Michigan; The City Mission in Cleveland, Ohio; The Ohio Veteran’s Home in Sandusky, Ohio; Haven of Rest Ministries in Battle Creek, Michigan; Onward House in Chicago, Illinois; Bordeaux Long Term Care in Nashville, Tennessee; ADDOHIO Association Development Disabled in Columbus, Ohio as well as public concert series’ in Marion, Ohio; Saugatuck, Michigan, and the yearly production of their hometown summer concert series for the City of Royal Oak, Michigan.
WE NEED HELP:
This spring has wreaked havoc on our roof. There have been leaks all over the building and we have had to adjust rehearsal spaces and the lobby so that kids with electric guitars do not get wet or hurt.
We have a team repairing our roof and, while not a complete new roof, have guaranteed that their work will last 3-6 years. This is the best value/money for our small school at this time. The amount of the unplanned repairs is well over $6000. Our programs do not allow for large cushions of funds (or banks to loan money to “arts” schools) for such large bills at once. The repairs are already underway but we need funding quickly to cover the costs when they are done.
We get a lot of people that offer, “Let me know if you guys need help over there.” We don’t ask for help much, but this is that time.
Perhaps you are a professional musician and have used our facility for rehearsals. Or perhaps you are a former adult student who has grown their appreciation for and skills in music through being here. Or perhaps we have helped you and your children realize some of their passion for music in our building and programs. If we have positively impacted your life through music, we could use your help.
It has been so much fun being a part of helping people grow in their passions together here at The Detroit School of Rock and Pop Music for the last 8 years. We could use all the support we can get to create a safe dry space for our community for many more years to come.
- Jason Gittinger
PS. We’re going to throw a “It’s dry in here” party for everyone that helps us! It will be epic.
“IT’S DRY IN HERE!” - ALL-STAR JAM NIGHT AND PARTY
- LIVE House band to “jam” with.
- Karaoke for people to sing.
- Intimate setting.
- Snacks
- Beverages
- Great music
- Great friends
- Fun!
