Robin Lanzone's Medical Fund

Everyone has a story. Robin and John Lanzone's story is not so unlike many other families fighting a battle with cancer, but it's unique right now because you know them. You, too, have been affected by their journey.

Married in June of 1997, Robin and John are approaching 20 years of marriage. Their story includes three beautiful children, their oldest, Gabriella, who is almost 16; Josiah, who just turned 13; and Micah who is soon to be six. Their family currently resides in Virginia, but many of you may know them from their early years in Rochester, New York.

Robin has cancer.  She was first diagnosed on June 27, 2014, a shocking revelation after having had a clean mammogram just six months prior.  When the large mass was discovered, it had already spread to her lymph nodes.

The type of cancer diagnosed was triple positive (estrogen, progesterone, and her2). Because of it's aggressive nature, doctors began with chemo, followed by a double mastectomy that December, and then radiation once she recovered from the surgery. By all indicators after this initial treatment, Robin was cancer free, and completed radiation by Easter 2015.

Robin continued taking Tomoxifin, and her doctors still recommended a full hysterectomy (which she had), because she also tested positive for the BRCA2 gene mutation.

All things were looking up for Robin and her family after this point. This past summer of 2016, Robin began feeling a strange pain which signaled a need for medical attention. The pain continued to get worse and imaging revealed cancer had metastasized in Robin's bones, as well as the presence of a small cancerous brain tumor.

Biopsy results at this time reveal that the cancer has morphed and is not triple positive anymore, so it will have to be treated differently (as far as chemo goes). Radiation has begun again, and Robin will have ten full treatments. She has stereotactic radio surgery on her brain tumor on the 28th of October, and will begin a newer type of meds/chemo which will be a regular part of life. Forever.

The hope is for regression of cancer and a full, long life. Doctors are hopeful and optimistic for Robin's future at this time.

One way that friends and family can help, is to make a financial contribution to assist with covering medical costs. Funds will also help with some of the family's basic, everyday needs, since they are incurring a heavy financial burden from Robin's treatment. You can do this either through this GoFundMe account that will go straight to the Lanzone Family, or you can contact John Lanzone directly and send a financial contribution to them by mail. John's Facebook page also promotes an opporunity to purchase tshirts in recognition of Robin's fight to win the battle against cancer.

Thank you for fighting with Robin and her family!
