Robert Michael Heyob, beloved healer and friend, passed away in San Francisco January 19, 2016. He was a pillar of strength - providing strong, steady, confident support for all who knew him. His abscence will leave a significant void in many of our lives.
Robert's community, friends, and family, will remember him as a compassionate health-care provider, dedicated sports fan, T'ai Ch'i instructor & exercise advocate, and enthusiastic supporter of the art of dance.
Robert came to San Francisco following his tour of duty as a Marine during the Vietnam War. He founded the medical clinic Traditional Oriental Medicine in 1987, and spent the next 28 years providing health care to a broad community.
Robert's generosity was profound. He honed his clinical skills during the height of HIV/ AIDS - when little conventional medicine had to offer was of much help to those who suffered from this puzzling and all-too-often ostrosizing illness. Robert never turned away patients for lack of funds. He was a quiet and modest man, with charm and tender soul that disarmed and surprised many - given his strength of presence. "Tell me all of your problems" he would often state to begin each session. He helped to usher acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine to the forefront of contemporary healthcare and the popular standing it now occupies. His life and accomplishments stand tall as a totem of kindness and compassion for us all.

We are leaning on the community that Robert so graciously cared for to cover the expenses of his Memorial Celebration. Donated funds will cover costs of the facility, staff, entertainment, and promotion of the event. Remaining funds will be used to assist with the Heyob Estate, including legal costs along with costs associated with the transition, and continuation, of the Traditional Oriental Medicine medical practice - Robert's life's work and legacy.
