As part of the enduring effort for Trees for Troops, where 457 trees are planted near Ashby-de-la-Zouch in remembrance of the 457 service personnel who lost their lives during the Afghanistan conflict, this October SSgt (SSI) Conway will complete 457 laps of remembrance, totalling 113.59 miles titled, Run to Remember.
Each lap serves as a moment to honour service, remember sacrifice, and reflect on the memories of our fallen. This challenge is more than a test of endurance—it is a tribute. A tribute to those who served with courage, to those who continue to serve today, and to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Run to remember stands as a powerful reminder that their legacy lives on, and that their service will never be forgotten. Through every step, every lap, and every mile, we carry their memory forward.
Through this challenge, the event will raise funds and awareness for organisations including the Royal British Legion (RBL), The UK Afghan Veterans Community, RAPTC Association and The Royal Signals Charity.
To continue raising awareness and support for Trees for Troops, SSgt (SSI) Conway will undertake the run carrying a model tree containing the eulogies of all 457 Service Personnel who lost their lives in Afghanistan. Personnel are invited to join in support and run as many laps as they feel able.
At the conclusion of each lap, one eulogy will be removed from the tree and displayed as an act of remembrance for the individual concerned. This symbolic process will continue throughout the event until all 457 eulogies have been revealed, ensuring that every Service Person is individually recognised, honoured, and remembered.
